Final Group Standings Prediction

Group A

With France already qualifying, the final automatic place is to be a battle between the Swiss and Romanians. Unfortunately Albania, as an underdog, could not have the ability to force a way through with even a win leaving them unlikely to force a place in the last 16 as a best third place finisher. Switzerland have been tipped to finish second prior to the competition and seem to do so, they need a point to guarantee second and with the far from perfect France performances, you would not go against them as you would two weeks ago. Therefore i back them to get second, despite Romania grabbing a win and potentially being a best placed third position team. Sorry Albania, but you're pointless.

Group B

As an England supporter it is much to my own delight to see this group table but it would of looked a lot worse had Sturridge not scored in stoppage time against Wales, I must confess my data usage did run out with 30 seconds of the game left but thankfully still saw the goal on a bus back home. I also hope Wales can secure a spot in the knock-out stages, as a home nation. This group just flows happiness as an English fan though and for most as the Russians seem destined for an early exit unless they pull off a win against a Wales team pull of patriotism and hope, lets just hope they take their fans with them if they are shown the door. Slovakia may still make it through but my heart wins on this occasion so they will finish third place, hopeful of a spot amongst the elite.

Russia 1 v 1 Wales

Group C

With Germany and Poland enduring a stalemate the other night it is likely that they are both through with 4 points already meaning they should be at least a best third placed teams. Northern Ireland of course registered a historic and vital win against Ukraine who are now as good as out, in my opinion are also not good enough to grab a point against Poland and will be the same as Albania and finish on no points. Northern Ireland will also see a defeat in this final round of games but will reach the last 16 as a third place team, but may struggle to get any further with a tie against France. Poland have been a good team so far and I back them to do well and possibly reach the quarters and to think Lewandowski has not started firing yet, he could be the knock-out stages catalyst.

Group D

Spain have been brilliant so far in this tournament and are deservedly in the knock-out stages, two controlling performances and two clean sheets have seen them being lined up as early favourites along side France and you can see why now. Morata is now firing after that Turkey game and Nolito and Iniesta are key to this team and I can see them getting past Croatia despite their good midfield. This will be a fantastic game though. Turkey have been very disappointing and I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to get a win against the Czech Republic until they produced that brilliant comeback against Croatia to draw 2-2. I just cannot see either getting through and can only see a draw in this game. Especially with the absence of Rosicky for the rest of the tournament.

Turkey 1 v 1 Czech Republic

Group E

Italy have been possibly the best team in the competition so far, maybe only beaten by Spain so as you can imagine I back them to beat the Republic of Ireland and unfortunately the Irish will be going home I'm afraid, the luck of the Irish does not exist for two European Championships in a row. Belgium completely ruined Ireland and looked a different team to the one we saw against Italy and and they should now go on to beat Sweden and say goodbye to Ibrahimovic from the Euros. Sweden have not been good enough and do not deserve to be pursue into the last 16 in a group where most tipped this as the group of death.

Belgium 2 v 0 Sweden

Group F

This group is one of the worst in the history of the competition surely. Portugal have been dreadful, Austria have not lived up to the hype of being a dark horse and the other two haven't got the quality to be a top team, although both have done better than we thought they would, especially Hungary. Unbelievably though Hungary are through now, but I cannot see Iceland getting past Austria despite both teams form, Austria should turn up eventually and will book their place in the knock-out stages. Surely Portugal and Ronaldo are going to have one good game and make it into the last 16 and I can see them beating Hungary with Portugal somehow still winning this group, but that will set up a tie against Belgium in my predictions.

How the knock-out stages look?

So the top two from each group make it through with the four best third placed teams going through, those being Northern Ireland, Romania, Austria and Slovakia, although I don't think any will be too happy with their draw in the last 16. Let's just hope England can go all the way!!!!! Might have to beat Belgium and Spain on the way to the final though, there is always hope.
