Much Needed Win for Development Team

Buckingham Athletic’s Development side have had a rocky start to the season, winning just one of their opening five games. Things look slightly rosier for them now as they jumped to 10th in the league with a 2-1 away win over Hoddesdon Town.

Things looked bad for Buckingham in the early stages when their form looked to continue, as the hosts profited from Athletic not clearing their lines from a free kick. Just two minutes in and things were the same as previous games. The score stayed the same for sometime, until Jamie Carter lost his man after 41 minutes and managed to drive past the helpless keeper. An equaliser that was deserved by the away team.

The second goal came in the second period of the game, and it was Jamie Carter who was instrumental in getting the goal, when he was brought down in the box by the keeper, who received a yellow card, despite Carter being about to score into the net. The penalty was converted by Frankey Tarrant, giving them the 2-1 lead and a grip of the game with something to defend.

The closing stages saw them have to absorb attacks from the hosts but Richard Tiller kept the goals out and earned the three points against a struggling side. There was several chances to kill the games off but the chances were never taken but it didn’t matter in the end as a valuable three points was secured.

Manager, Larry Woodward, was pleased with having some more experienced players in the squad, “It helped the overall performance of the side and, despite the early setback, I was never overly concerned that we couldn’t turn the game around.” He also added how the side is starting to show signs of potential, “We are slowly getting to grips with this league and hopefully we can build on this at Risborough Rangers on Saturday.”
