Another Defeat for Athletic

Buckingham Athletic’s Development side struggled to bounce back from a defeat to Holmer Green as they fell to a second consecutive defeat, this time to Oxhey Jets who sat just beneath them in the league before the game. The defeat now leaves them in eighth position going into the local derby game against Winslow on Saturday.

There were chances for Buckingham to take the lead in the first half as neither side dominated. The visitors, Oxhey, were unable to create too many chances in opening stage and the best chance fell to the hosts, as a good bit of play led the ball to Ricky Brown at the far post, only for the wing back to just put his effort wide. The first goal of the game eventually came and from a mistake, as the Oxhey keeper gifted Frankey Tarrant a simple goal to give Athletic the lead. It did not last long however, as the visitors managed to equalise just before half time.

The second half was miserable for Buckingham as they could not find the goal to take the lead, despite creating some chances and with some good attacking play. The away side instead managed to go in front when the full back sent a cross into the box which was actually overhit and managed to go on target, leaving keeper Richard Tiller struggling to deal with it, and seeing the ball drop in the far corner.

Buckingham continued to be a threat going forward but couldn’t create enough chances to find an equaliser, and left Oxhey the chance to finish the game off with a good solo goal from their central midfielder. With two defeats in a row, Saturday’s game at Winslow looks even more important for Buckingham.
