A tight finish, but an outstanding win for Buckingham Athletic Development against Hadley Development saw them claim a first victory for a month. The win takes them up to a solid, sixth place in the league, however the teams behind them do have games in hand to try and catch up.
The Tuesday night game started brightly for Buckingham, as they were on the front for the first 20 minutes. They didn't manage to create too many chances in that time, but the one good opportunity they had was taken, when Tom Kennard scored his first goal for the club, with a nice half volley. There were periods of pressure from the visitors, but Buckingham managed to shut out any opportunities and held on for a lead going into half time.
The second half was a hard one for Buckingham as they struggled to control the game and were the victim of pressure and good play from Hadley. Some technically gifted midfielders threatened to cause problems for Athletic, however the tight shape and solidity remained and they managed to deny an equaliser.
Buckingham in fact went on to double their lead when a bit of fortune gifted them some breathing space as Dan Hassell’s intended cross flew beyond the keeper and and into the net. The visitors did bring one goal back with a counter that could only see Richard Tiller parry the initial shot into the path of another Hadley forward.
Buckingham managed to hold on for the final 5 minutes and secured a fine win. They travel to Rivets Sports in the Berks and Bucks Junior Cup.
