Buckingham Athletic under 18’s took another huge step to being proper contenders for the league title by scoring 4 against Carterton to go top of the league, despite playing more games than their rivals. They looked impressive once again as the free-scorers took their goal difference to 26 from just 9 games. It was an impressive performance all round but the usual suspects stole the headlines.

The first half was rather frustrating for Buckingham as they failed to convert their chances despite a couple of efforts going close from Rory Busby. They were caught out a couple of times in the first half where they committed too many bodies forward and left a forward for the visitors a chance to counter and take the lead, but an in form Laurence Mills managed to keep out the opponents on a couple of occasions with good saves.

The second half was much more eventful, especially for the hosts, as they quickly took the lead when Jamie Sylvester slotted home well to find the corner from close range to give Athletic the lead. The goals just kept on coming as well. Ben Acquaye’s fine season got even better as he scored two in quick succession to give his side some breathing space. The first a good finish from the edge of the box, and the second being tapped in at the back post, taking his goal tally for the season to 7 in the league.

The side were not done their as there was still a chance for Sylvester to claim his brace as he finished well inside the box to wrap up the victory. The football down at Buckingham just keeps getting better and better and now top of the league and into the quarter finals of the county cup, it looks like it will be a memorable season at Buckingham Athletic.

Ben Acquaye scored his 6th and 7th of the league season
