A first half romp and an impressive and dominant performance throughout saw Buckingham Athletic's development team coast past Colney Heath 7-1, after losing 3-0 in the reverse fixture back in August. The problem of missing a few players didn't seem to effect Athletic as they cruised past their opponents without any pressure as a few players put in star performances.

It took some time for Buckingham to have something to show for their dominance in this game as they struggled to take the opportunity to take the lead early on. The goal came around 20 minutes in when Jordan Tavener got space down the right wing, as midfielders continuously spotted the gaps in the behind. His run was found and he managed to cross the ball onto the head of Jamie Carter, who was ready to place it into the corner.

Visitors, Buckingham, were constantly making good use of the wingers in this game and it was shown again a few moments after as they played in Encho Lemperov, who provided the assist for Carter’s second of the day from a near post finish. The forward was not finished as managed to claim his hat trick from the spot a couple of minutes later when Sam Pateman’s long ball to Jordan Tavener was ran onto into the the box which was subsequently hand-balled by the defender.

It was made 4-0 before half time as Carter finished his scoring for the day just before the whistle as Sam McCarthy’s long ball this time was again to Tavener, who again found Carter from a first time ball who calmly slotted away his fourth of the day in around 20 minutes of play. As the second half began, it was a similar story for Buckingham as they continued to control the game and the fifth goal for Buckingham came from Callum Brinn as he scored his first goal for the club. The goal actually came from some nice build up play from Buckingham from Luke Tavener and then Alex Kennard who played in Brinn to score.

The hosts did manage to get a consolation goal with a well struck volley where filling in goalkeeper, Frankey Tarrant, had no chance of keeping it out. The visitors carried on scoring though as Paul Dearlove continued his goal scoring form with a sublime finish into the bottom corner from 20 yards, leaving the keeper flat footed. The scoring was finished when Athletic win another penalty, this time is was Lemperov who was brought down and this time it was Jordan Tavener who scored the penalty as he scored his second spot kick in two games.

The win takes Buckingham to eighth in the league and with a winter break how in place, meaning they do not play again until the 18th January against Stotfold. They will look to keep their momentum going despite the long break.
