Christmas Delight for Buckingham

Buckingham Athletic first team managed to beat local rivals Winslow in the first Derby of the season as they came from behind to beat Winslow 2-1 and also move passed them in the league by two points. Goals from top scorers, Glen Hawkins and Robbie Carter saw Buckingham come out on top and give them the bragging rights over Winslow.

The approaches to the game were different from both sides and Buckingham tried to control the game and played some nice football, whilst Winslow looked to catch Athletic on the break I order to take the three points in this game. The first goal did come from hosts in this game as Winslow produced a cross into the box that wasn't cleared properly and ended up being headed back and forth until it was finally turned in at the back post.

Although Buckingham played some good football it was Winslow that had the better chances in the first half as Buckingham struggled to make enough chances to make an equaliser occur. The second half did see Mark Carter rethink his tactics as he brought on youngster Robbie Carter who has already been in fine form this season. His finish saw Buckingham draw level with an instant impact after being brought on.

It wasn't long before they took the lead as well as a great corner from Jack Menday found the head of Hawkins who found the net for his seventh of the season. Athletic did press to increase their lead but didn't manage to get another goal as the Winslow kept manage chances out. One from Dan Staley, one from Carter and from Hawkins. The hosts did push for an equaliser in the last ten minutes but Athletic held on for their first win in three and earned themselves a good late Christmas present.

Mark Carted paid tribute to the youngsters in the side who again performed well as Ben Acquaye, Jamie Sylvester and Robbie Carter all played a bit part and Mark Carter was also full of praise for the relentless work of Josh Hooper. Athletic now face Risborough to start a run of three home games where they look to break into the top half of the table and hope the second half of the season is more consistent.
