After 10 points from their last four games, Buckingham have been in good form the last few weeks but that has swiftly come to an end after they came up against a good Baldock side, sitting up in the 3rd in the league with games in hand. The result may not have been unsurprising but it now means Athletic need to bounce back to regain their form.
Buckingham actually started the game really well and could’ve gone in front after 10 minutes but they failed to take their chances and went on to pay for it. Despite the disappointment of not taking their chances, they did continue to play some good football on a difficult pitch but unfortunately they were caught in the break by a good counter attack from Baldock. They went in 1-0 down at half time.
Again, Buckingham started well, but with the intensity they were playing at, it looked difficult to maintain for 90 minutes, and they tired after 20 minutes into the second half. The game was dead and buried when Baldock doubled the deficit to go 2-0 ahead. It was hard to get any way back into the game but Buckingham gave their all in a tie that looked hard on paper.
Despite the defeat, they did actually play good football and there was one man in particular that played a prominent role for the swans, who Mark Carter was full of praise for. “Overall I was happy with the team performance because we had several players missing but the team kept going to the end with Josh Hooper exceptional in the centre of midfield.
Buckingham have a couple of mid-week games now with Hatfield coming to Stratford Fields in a couple of weeks.
