In the last decade we have had some clubs become taken over and had huge amounts of money pumped into those clubs. There is no surprise that those clubs feature in this list but the position of them may be surprising. There is also a couple of inclusions that may surprise a few.. You may be able to guess the top club but who else will be at the top of this list and will your team feature as we look at the clubs with the highest collective points total in Premier League history.

10. West Ham United

991 points after 793 games

After a tough few seasons it may be strange to see them this high up, and after a few seasons outside the top flight. They have been part of the Premier League for 20 of the 23 seasons, but have never finished higher than 5th although last season they came close to matching that. They have produced some good players over the course of their existence, and call themselves the 'Academy of Football. This season may not have started the way they would have wanted, but they are starting to improving again after the exit of Dimitri Payet. The Hammers still feature as one of the best clubs in the history of the Premier League, and they have only just overtaken Blackburn Rovers this season after their absence from the league over the last few years.

9. Manchester City

1142 points after 758 games

It may be difficult to believe now, but Manchester City have actually participated in less games in the Premier League than West Ham, but they have now featured in the last 14 campaigns, and have been more successful than the Hammers in that time, winning two titles. One of the teams that has benefited from the foreign investment into clubs, they have invested huge amounts of money on players in the last decade. Manchester City have started to make their own history and are trying to put themselves on the same level as Liverpool and Manchester United, and although some dislike the way they have made their history, they have done it in a smart way by investing a lot of money in the academy as well. The success will probably continue for a very long time.

8. Newcastle United

1183 points after 844 games

Newcastle have had their fair share of ups and downs during their time in the Premier League as they challenged for the title on occasions in the late nineties and early naughties, but have also been fighting relegation for a few top flight seasons. They even had a few seasons in the Champions League, but never got far into the competition. They may be back in the top flight for next season after being favourites for promotion, however it seems difficult for them to hold off Manchester City and close the gap on the other clubs above them, other than Aston Villa, who they sit just 40 points behind. The Toon will be hoping that Benitez can bring back the better days from under Kevin Keegan.

7. Aston Villa

1223 points after 924 games

The young readers may find it strange to see Villa this high after their relegation fights in the last few years and the atrocious season that saw them exit the Premier League for the first time. They have enjoyed a few good seasons in the top flight, not quite to match their proud history pre-Premier League era, but still not bad. They finished in the top half of the division in 8 of their first 9 Premier League seasons and also finished 6th place in three consecutive campaigns from 2008 to 2010, even challenging for a Champions League spot, with John Carew and Gabby Agbonlahor forging a decent partnership up top. Despite this, their downfall was rather quick, and saw them battle relegation from 2012 up to their eventual drop in 2016.

6. Everton

1304 points after 949 games

The first of six teams to participate in every Premier League season, Everton have been a consistent top half side for around a decade now, only slipping to the bottom half in the last two campaigns. In the nineties, it was much different, as the toffees recorded just one top half finish where they failed to establish themselves as a top team. The re-emergence of the club began when David Moyes took over in 2002. They had one bad season under him where they just escaped relegation, but apart from that he built a platform to challenge the nations top sides. They broke into the top for in 2005 where they would struggle in the Champions League the next season, but they constantly sat in the top half under the Scotsman, who left for Manchester United in 2013. Roberto Martinez took them to fifth the following campaign where they just missed out on the top four, but since then they have struggled to get back to where there were, as Ronald Koeman now has the job of bringing some joy back to Goodison Park.

5. Tottenham Hotspur

1411 points after 949 games

A team that has been in and around the top four for may years, Spurs have seen themselves pipped to the Champions League spots on numerous occasions since the turn of the millennium. In the era of Daniel Levy they have managed to be a European spot contender rather than a mid-table club and are now enjoying life in the top end of the league. Under several managers, they have been finishing in fifth and sixth place until Harry Redknapp joined from Portsmouth when the club were bottom of the league in the 2008/09 season. He saved the club that season and finished in 8th place, which was a stepping stone to claiming a Champions League spot the following year when they beat Manchester City to 4th. Under the new guidance of Pochettino they have shown they are on the same track as the big clubs, where last season, they recorded their highest Premier League finish of 3rd.

4. Liverpool

1650 points after 949 games

With rich history, Liverpool have been crying out for a league title for so many years and are the highest on this list not to win the Premier League. After dominating the seventies and eighties, it is surprising to see the club not go on to win the league since the re-branding of England's top division. Since the Premier League began, they have finished in the top half in every season, with the club's lowest position being 8th, which was matched last season. Their best chance of winning the league was in the 2013/14 season where they dropped precious points in the last few weeks to allow Manchester City to win the league. They struggled after that season when Luis Suarez left as their goals tally dropped significantly from 101 to 52. Jurgen Klopp has now got them back to a decent level, but when will their time finally come to win their first ever Premier League title?

3. Chelsea

1756 points after 949 games

Most people think Chelsea only starting being a big club when Roman Abramovich took over in 2003, however they had actually been improving and challenging the sides some seasons before. They finished in sixth place in 1996/97 season, which kick-started their rise to the top of English football. Since the Russian took over at the club, they have been free-spending and brought in several managers and spent over a billion pounds on players to help them to the top of the game. They have also only finished outside of the top 3 on two occasions, one in the campaign that they went on to win the Champions League, and then last season where their title defence looked absolutely dreadful until Leicester made it look slightly better this season. With Abramovich still there and Conte leading the blues at the top of the league this season, it looks like they may just be pushing closer towards second place in this list.

2. Arsenal

1797 points after 949 games

Arsene Wenger has proven to be one of the most consistent managers in Premier League history by leading Arsenal to the top four every single season he has been at the club, done just once in the four seasons prior. His tenure may be far from as glamorous as it might have been due to the large amount of disappointment in recent years, but he has guided the club to consistent Champions League spaces in the 21st century. The club are the only one to go a full season unbeaten and have had some extraordinary talent over the last 20 years, so it is quite easy to see why they are so high on this list. Although they have only won three league titles in his two decades at the club, they have been able to get a high points total every single season without having a blip for a season or two like Chelsea and Liverpool. They may still be some way off the leaders in this list, but the gunners have been remarkable in maintaining their spot amongst England's elite.

1. Manchester United

2000 points after 949 games

Obviously the top spot goes to Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson's reign gave them the most titles of any club in English football history. The Scots time at the club will be forever held as the best in history after an astonishing 13 Premier League titles, making them the most successful club in the Premier League and English football history. The last few years may have seen them drop down the table to battle just for the top four, but Ferguson created such a big gap prior to that, that no one could catch them. The club won 7 of the first 9 Premier League titles and the longest they ever went under Ferguson without the title was 3 years. The lowest they ever finished under him was third and the performance of the club after his departure shows just how vital he was as they haven't finished 3rd since. They may not be challenging for the title that closely this season, but with the money in the club being so large, they have the power to be the biggest club in the country once again.
