After a defeat in the week at Harefield United, Buckingham travelled to the same ground to play Broadfields in their 29th league game of the season in the Spartan South Midlands Division One. They couldn't bounce back though and fell to a 3-2 defeat where they would have closed the gap on their opponents to one point had they won the game.
The first half started slowly and Athletic never really got into it in the first period as they conceded the first goal after Lewis Dench’s initial save went straight to the centre forward who could score from close range. As the first half came to a close, Buckingham were left re-thinking their tactics as they were going down the wrong road after being a goal down.
They came out in the second half with a changed formation and started to look a lot brighter. They managed to find an equaliser when Jamie Sylvester produced a good delivery into the box for Sid Hawkins to tap in, but they couldn't find the goal to take the lead and were dealt a double blow in quick succession. Buckingham conceded two in a matter of minutes with another two soft goals and then never looked like getting something.
The side did get a goal back through Ben Acquaye, five minutes from time, but it proved to only be a consolation as they came to a 3-2 defeat.
Manager, Mark Carter would be disappointed with how the game panned out for them as they conceded soft goals which should have been prevented, “We can't keep conceding soft goals and expect to win” but he was full of praise for a consistent centre half in the game, “Dan Staley was a rock at the back today.”
