Athletic Earn Impressive Point

Travelling to Harpenden looked a difficult game on paper, with Buckingham's opponents going for promotion with their experienced side. But a well earned point on their travels ensured they returned to Stratford Fields in a positive mood.

They may matched their opponents in the first half, with an assured back line only allowing a few chances for the opposition. Clean sheets had been hard to come by for them this season, but this game gave them their second in a row, with a back four in inspired form, with Dan Staley, Nathan Hawkins, Dan Hassell and Jack Carter all playing a big role in the recent form.

Mason Tromwell was making his first start for the club after Sid Hakwins pulled out, so the youngster played in central midfield and was impressive in his role. The first half was largely uneventful with a lack of chances from either side challenging the keepers.

The second half saw introductions to another new signing in Ziahn Watts and the return of Ryan Marsden. They were both thrown into a more entertaining half where the game opened up and saw both side create some better chances and either could have taken the win if they had taken their chances.

It ended without either side managing to get on the scoresheet though and Buckingham left with a point which they were happy with. The most pleasing thing for manager Mark Carter was the discipline of his side, “I'm very happy with the way we conducted ourselves in a physical game, they had four players booked and we didn't get any bookings.”
